Our own Barometer Q2 2026 data: 73 businesses for sale at the end of June, a median asking price of €162.3k and 61% of prices below €250k.

Current Trends in the Business Buying and Selling Market in Portugal: What Q2 2026 Listings Show

Short answer. In Q2 2026, the number of businesses for sale on Comprar Empresa rose from 50 to 73 (+46%). The median asking price was €162.3k, and 61% of listings with a published price were asking less than €250k. Lisbon and Porto accounted for 53% of listings. Food & Beverage was the most represented sector (19%). 60% of listings had been live for 90 days or more. There is not yet enough demand data to draw any conclusions.

Source: Comprar Empresa Barometer, Q2 2026 (in Portuguese). These figures describe the listings published on Comprar Empresa, not the whole Portuguese market.

What this data is (and what it isn't)

Before the numbers, three important limits:

  • It measures listings on Comprar Empresa, not the whole market. These are the businesses that were listed on the platform between April and June 2026. Businesses in Portugal are also sold through other channels (direct contacts, advisers, other platforms), and those don't show up here.

  • Prices are asking prices, not transaction prices. It's the figure the seller puts in the listing, before any negotiation.

  • There is no sale rate, time to sell or final price. A listing can come down because the business sold, because it expired or because the seller withdrew it, and right now there is no reliable way to tell these cases apart.

With those limits in mind, here is what the supply side showed in Q2.

1. The number of businesses for sale grew 46% in one quarter

At the start of the quarter there were 50 businesses for sale on Comprar Empresa. By the end of June there were 73. Of these, 69 showed a price.

For buyers, that means more listings to compare than at the start of the quarter. For sellers, it means more listings alongside yours. This figure is about supply on the platform, not about how many deals are closing in Portugal.

2. Most asking prices are below €250k

Among the 69 businesses with a published price:

  • Median asking price: €162.3k

  • First quartile: €65k (a quarter of businesses were asking up to this amount)

  • Third quartile: €450k (three quarters were asking up to this amount). The middle half of businesses sat between €65k and €450k.

  • 61% were asking less than €250k.

On the platform, buying a business is mostly not a multi-million deal. Supply is concentrated in SMEs and small businesses. We use the median and quartiles rather than the average, so that a few very high or very low prices don't distort the picture.

If you're planning a purchase, see how much it costs to buy a business. If you're setting a sale price, start with a business valuation: an asking price is a starting point, not a guaranteed value.

Food & Beverage was the sector with the most businesses for sale (19%), followed by Other Businesses (12%) and, at 11% each, Miscellaneous Services and Tourism & Hospitality. This is a snapshot of what is for sale. It doesn't tell you which sectors have the most buyers.

What about demand? No conclusions yet

We started measuring views and enquiries at the end of June 2026, and visit tracking starts on 16/06/2026. This edition doesn't yet have enough history to draw conclusions about demand. That's why this article does not say which sectors or regions have the most buyers. We'll update it once there is publishable data.

What this means in practice

If you're thinking of buying

  • Use the €162.3k median and the €65k–€450k range to see where most of the listings sit. Don't use them as a guide to the fair price of any specific business.

  • Treat the asking price as the start of the negotiation. Ask for the accounts, contracts and the tax and employment position before making an offer. See the due diligence checklist.

  • Browse the businesses for sale and filter by sector and district. If it's your first purchase, follow the step-by-step guide on how to buy a business.

If you're thinking of selling

  • Compare the price you have in mind with the distribution above. If your business is above €450k, it's in the top quarter of listings, so explain clearly in the listing what justifies that value.

  • In a quarter when listings grew 46%, a complete listing (published price, figures and the reason for selling) helps your business stand out from the rest.

  • Before listing, get a business valuation and read the steps to sell a business.

How these figures were produced

The Comprar Empresa Barometer Q2 2026 (in Portuguese) analyses every business that was listed on ComprarEmpresa.pt between April and June 2026. Drafts are not included. The data was extracted on 16/09/2026 using methodology v1, and each edition's figures are not changed after publication. The Barometer has the full definitions (active listing, asking price, median and quartiles) and the limitations of the edition.

Frequently asked questions

Which sectors have the most businesses for sale in Portugal?

On Comprar Empresa, at the end of June 2026, the sector with the most businesses for sale was Food & Beverage (19% of listings), followed by Other Businesses (12%), Miscellaneous Services (11%) and Tourism & Hospitality (11%). The data only reflects listings published on the platform and doesn't show which sectors have the most buyers.

How much does it cost to buy a business in Portugal?

It depends on the business. As a reference, in Q2 2026 the median asking price on Comprar Empresa was €162.3k, half of businesses were asking between €65k and €450k, and 61% were asking less than €250k. These are sellers' asking prices before negotiation, not final sale prices.

Where are the businesses for sale concentrated?

Lisbon (33%) and Porto (21%) held 53% of the listings available on Comprar Empresa at the end of June 2026. Faro accounted for 7% and other districts for 40%.

How long does it take to sell a business?

The Barometer doesn't measure time to sell, because there's no reliable way to tell a listing that sold from one that expired or was withdrawn. It measures how long listings stay live: at the end of June 2026, 60% had been available for 90 days or more.

Is it a good time to sell a business in Portugal?

The current data can't answer that reliably, because there isn't enough demand history (views and enquiries) yet. What we do know is that listings on Comprar Empresa grew 46% in Q2 2026. With more businesses for sale, it pays to prepare your listing well: a realistic price, financial information and the reason for selling.

Do these figures represent the whole Portuguese market?

No. They represent the listings published on Comprar Empresa. They don't include businesses sold through other channels or final transaction prices.
